Ken Anderson, D.O., Physician and CEO

In September of 2010, I suffered a cardiac arrest while playing tennis. This has changed my approach toward preventative care in general and especially prevention of cardiac disease. The knowledge that I gained from my personal experience is passed along to my patients in the daily treatment and discussions about risk factors for cardiac disease. As a sports medicine physician, I have always encouraged my patients to be active. I believe that we have the best approach to keeping you active and getting you back to activity as quickly as possible when you are injured. That is why we have added such complementary services such as acupuncture and massage therapy to our practice. It is our goal to provide the highest level of care for all of your medical needs. When you do need further care we are here to guide the way and get you to the right specialist.

I went to medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation in 1984 I did an internship in Pinellas Park, Florida. After serving 4 years as an Army physician, I moved to San Diego and completed a sports medicine fellowship at the San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center. I am board certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine.

I have provided Primary Care in Pacific Beach since 1989. I am currently the Medical Director for SeaWorld San Diego. I am also the team physician for the University of San Diego and Mission Bay High School. I serve as the tournament physician for the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells and the La Costa Women's Professional tennis tournament. I am also on the faculty of several medical schools and provide training for medical students at our medical center. I have been the team physician for the San Diego Gulls, the Buick Open golf tournament and various other sporting events such as the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. I was also on staff at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital in the Sports Medicine Clinic.

My wife Sandy and I enjoy playing many sports, especially tennis. I love spending free time with our dogs, family, and friends. I am also very active in our church community.

Tess Maloney, FNP-C

My motto is “I treat patients the way I would want somebody to take care of a beloved family member." My personal style includes getting to know my patients a bit over time, helping them through the illnesses that may come their way, or seeing them for their annual exam year after year. Being a patient advocate is also an aspect of caring for patients that I enjoy. Often patients or their families need help navigating through the maze of healthcare and I like to be able to lend that helping hand as well. I enjoy seeing women of all ages for their female health needs, including annual exams, STD testing and treatment, contraception, and health maintenance. Menopausal women have unique needs and I enjoy working with them, prescribing bio-identical hormones if indicated, to maximize their quality of life. I love my profession and I am happy to be part of the team at Anderson Medical Center.

Tess grew up in Philadelphia, PA and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University in 1988. For twelve years she worked as an ER and ICU RN at various teaching hospitals across the US. In 1999 she earned her Master of Science degree from the University of San Diego. She is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, licensed by the State of California, and has full prescribing certifications. Tess has worked in Family Practice and Urgent Care throughout her NP career, served as Clinical Faculty at USD, and is currently Adjunct Clinical Professor at San Diego State School of Nursing, College of Health and Human Services. Tess has been employed at Anderson Medical Center since our opening day in 2011. She has eighteen years of experience as an NP, eleven in Urgent Care settings.

When not at work, Tess enjoys spending time with her family, ocean activities, cycling, traveling, and gardening.

Emily Allina, FNP-C

After many years as both a registered nurse (RN) and nurse practitioner (NP) in the ER, I joined Anderson Medical Center in April 2016. I continue to practice in the ER and retain my love for treating acutely ill and injured individuals. But I have also discovered the amazing benefits and professional satisfaction that comes with establishing patient relationships in the urgent care/primary care setting. I engage in preventative healthcare education as part of my daily practice, and I enjoy working with patients as a team to find the most safe and effective (and hopefully least invasive) treatment for their acute or chronic issues. I am a strong advocate for complementary medicine, which can be utilized in conjunction with the traditional medical model to achieve the best possible outcome for my patients.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Indiana University and have since worked in a variety of settings as an RN, including most recently in the ER (from 2004-2011). I received my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, in 2011. My area of academic concentration was Family Nurse Practitioner. Since graduation, I have continued to practice in the ER, have spent months working aboard a ship, and most recently have found my second home here at Anderson Medical Center.

During my time off, I participate in competitive sailing regularly and enjoy almost all outdoor activities. My hobbies include swimming, tennis, skiing/snowboarding, camping, flying, reading, and any travel adventure!
